Whistler : December 2004
This was my return to Whistler, for various reasons, including my love for this place !!!
- Thursday
A spectacular amount of planning led to a memorable last 12 hours...
Give back hire car, play tennis from 9 to 11, then pack and iron all night, getting only 2 hours sleep.
- Friday
Haircut
Taxi to airport... where my phone dies, completely dead
Long flight, good films : Bourne Supremacy, Fish called wanda, Spider-man2
Meal at Kirin : First time food = Geoduck, jellyfish, lettuce wrap beef, red bean paste fritters with orange sugar
Phone briefly comes back to life (ain't technology great)
- Monday
Dinner at Earls Bistro, with new friends : Carsten, Lisa and Rose. If you can't meet people in the Hot Tub, where can you meet them ?
- Tuesday
Skiing on Blackcomb with Lisa (every other day I was on Whistler).
Dinner at "Old Spaghetti Factory". Exceptional value.
- Wednesday
Linda and her parents arrive from Vancouver.
Dinner at "The Keg" - All five of us... courtesy of Dad.
- Thursday
Tappanyaki Dinner... at the Tappanyaki place.
- Friday
Linda had her first ever day of snowboarding.
We all took a limo back to Vancouver. A first for me.
Dinner back in Vancouver : lamb stew, peking duck
Richard (Linda's brother) flew in from New York.
- Saturday
Breakfast for five at "White Spot".
My first ever trip to a Golf driving range. I wasn't bad for a complete beginner. Honest.
This is where we picked up the salmon !!
Richard drove us to Granville Island, where we had some proper salmon jerky, and we took ownership of Crusty The Clown (photo to come). Then onto to Capilano, which is including "far from civilisation", considering how close it is to the city.
At Tapioca Express (Taiwanese) - I tried Bubble Tea (which is made with bits of tapioca) and discover it is crap.
But tried Tianbula which means "sweet but not spicy"... fish bites, which are nice.
Relaxed and read read a Chinese comic.
Dinner was with Linda's entire family, including 6 great-aunts and great-uncles.
Later Linda, Richard, their Dad and I played tennis.
- Sunday
A last lunch with the family, then pack SIXTEEN salmon into my suitcase, and head home...
